Mount Albertia

A beautiful natural lookout point affording outstanding views over the reservoirs of Urrunaga, Albina and Zadorra. Access is via a path from Legutiano village up the oak-wooded hillside to the 868 m summit. On the northern slopes of the hill stands a magnificent beech wood, beyond which the terrain climbs again to Mount Jarindo (896 m). Walkers can then follow the bank of the Albina reservoir back to Legutiano.

During the Spanish Civil War these two hills were a stronghold of Basque nationalist forces, and they saw one of the cruellest battles in the Basque Country. An annual tribute to those who fell there is still held.
