Goiuri waterfall

Altube valley - Gorbeia Natural Park

A broad, leafy valley carved out by the river Jaundia/Altube, at whose headwaters stands the spectacular Goiuri waterfall, over 100 metres in height. From the top there are extraordinary views towards the beech woods of Altube and the Gorbeia massif. A viewing balcony has been set up there.

The valley comprises around 1400 hectares of beech and oak woods which are so well preserved that they have been declared a natural park.

Goiuri and the surrounding villages (Unzá, Uzkiano, Oiardo, etc.) contain good examples of the farm-house architecture typical of the area, and many fine churches, whose Romanesque style shows up particularly in their windows and porticoes. From Goiuri it is a pleasant walk to the village of Oiardo, where visitors can see the country chapel of Goikoana with its 16th century paintings and a beautiful carved figure of the Virgin Mary, also dating from the 16th century. The village holds processions on September 8th.

In the town of Goiuri itself and in Inoso (in the Altube Valley), visitors can buy traditionally made local cheeses and cakes.
