Nervión waterfall

Ebana waterfall

A spectacular waterfall measuring over 300 metres, in the Gibijo hills, forming the source of the river Nervión. It stands between the districts of Koartango and Urkabustaiz (Araba) and Berberana (Burgos). In this last village visitors can find the Monte Santiago balcony, a protected natural area run by the regional government of Castilla-León.

Footpaths (running for 6-8 km) lead to the area from Izarra, Abezia and especially from Unzá/Untzaga, and offer extraordinary views from such points as Estuñagan/Alto del Corral (Izarra) and Alto de Ganbaza/Abezia (Abezia).

Estuñagan/Alto del Corral is one of the most frequently visited peaks in Urkabustaiz. It is reached from Izarra via a clearly marked path running for just over 2.5 km. On a clear day the view from the top takes in the whole Gorbeia massif with the valley of Zuia to the east, the valley of Koartango and the Gibijo hills, Arkamo, Badaia and Arrato to the south, the craggy peaks of Orduña and Sierra Salvada to the west and the mountains of Bizkaia, with Mount Ganekogorta standing tall at the rear, to the north.
